Winnipeg Airports Authority Inc. Proud Partner of Hunger for Hope Because No Child Should Go To Bed Hungry

Dec 21, 2009

Winnipeg – December 21, 2009 - Winnipeg Airports Authority Inc. is proud to partner with Corus Radio in Hunger for Hope, an initiative aimed at ending child hunger in Manitoba.

Beginning December 22nd, 8 large baby coin bottles will be located throughout the air terminal building to collect monies in support of Hunger for Hope.

“Coin collection bottles are a great way to raise funds and awareness for Hunger for Hope and they make it easy for airport visitors to really make a difference,” said Barry Rempel, President & CEO of Winnipeg Airports Authority. “We are proud to partner with Corus Radio and Winnipeg Harvest in the goal to end child hunger in Manitoba.”

“The partnership between Corus Radio, Winnipeg Harvest and Winnipeg Airports Authority, can without a doubt, make a difference in Manitoba,” said Garth Buchko, General Manager, Corus Entertainment. “With over 3.6 million passengers a year and approximately 1 million meeters and greeters, we are excited to launch this baby bottle initiative at the community’s airport to raise monies and awareness. All three radio stations, CJOB, Groove FM and Power 97 are committed to be live on location at the airport December 22nd for the launch.”

About Hunger for Hope:
Corus Radio made a commitment to Winnipeg Harvest to raise $100,000 a year to help eradicate child hunger in Manitoba; however, in a little over 18 months, Hunger for Hope has raised almost $300,000. Winnipeg Harvest feeds approximately 39,000 individuals each week – over sixteen hundred infants in Manitoba receive emergency formula each month from Winnipeg Harvest. Despite the generous food donations by individuals and businesses in Manitoba, there is never enough baby/infant formula to meet demand. As a result, Winnipeg Harvest has an annual cash operating cost of $60,000 designated strictly for the purchase of formula. The goal of “Hunger for Hope” is to cover this cost and establish an endowment fund to cover this cost for years to come.
